Join Wimbleball Lake Triathlon 2026

We’re bringing triathlon back to Wimbleball Lake, a superb venue that previously hosted Ironman 70.3 for ten years.

The race begins with a swim in the lake — a rare opportunity, as swimming here is usually not permitted. Athletes then head out onto the quiet but challenging local roads for either one lap (Standard) or two laps (70.3) of the bike course. The event concludes with one or two laps of a stunning 10K run route, which, like the bike, features a few testing climbs along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a wetsuit to take part in your open water triathlons?

keyboard_arrow_down

This depends on the water temperature. As from 2025, British Triathlon rules state that wetsuits are mandatory if the water temperature is 15.9C or below. If the water temperature goes over 22C, which never happens for open water swims in the South West, then you're not allowed to wear a wetsuit. Sleeveless or shorty wetsuits are permitted but competitors should be aware that they offer less protection against the cold.

Are shortie or armless wetsuits permitted at open water triathlons?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yes they are. However you should be aware that they offer less protection from the cold.
