About Charlottesville Marathon

The Charlottesville Marathon, and Half Marathon is one of the oldest and most coveted races in Charlottesville. It has been defined as America's Destination Marathon because of its scenic beauty and historical background. 

A true community event, the race showcases the area's natural beauty, engaging running community, historical background, architectural heritage, vibrant music and nightlife, and booming craft beer industry. 

Known for its rolling green hills, gorgeous farmlands and famous residents such as John Grisham, Sissy Spacek and the fact that it served as the home base and launching pad for the Dave Matthews Band, the city of Charlottesville plays host each spring to more than 1,000 runners at the Charlottesville Marathon & Half Marathon, which has also featured an 8K race and a Kids Mile since its 2010 running.

Take a long weekend and see all that the area has to offer.

Practicalities

Award Medals

Awards will be given to the Top 3 and Masters winners of the Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K. Relay Awards will go to the Men's, Women's and Mixed Team Winners. The age groups will be 3 deep in 5 year brackets. Awards will not be mailed.

Parking

The Historic Downtown Mall in Charlottesville offers several parking decks and parking lots. The parking decks charge by the hour ($2/hour or a max of $16/day). There is also street parking available, but please pay attention to the signs, since many parking spots have a 2 hour limit. All parking locations are no more than 2 blocks from the Start/Finish.

Race Kit Includes

Friday, March 31 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the race Expo. Saturday, April 1st from 5:45am to 6:45am at the race Expo. Please note: other people can pick up your bib number and chip but the MUST provide a copy of your ID or drivers license. Pictures are accepted form of ID.

Overview

The course starts at Court Square in the heart of historic downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. It then traverses some of the most scenic and historic areas on the East Coast, running past many historic sites including Thomas Jefferson’s Rotunda, located at the University of Virginia. 

The course includes beautiful Albemarle wine and horse country. The race finishes in Charlottesville's most historic downtown neighborhoods including 2 miles along the Riverview Park paved footpath.
