Join MOROCCO TRAIL RACE
The valley is located at the border of the provinces of Azilal and Ouarzazate. Its altitude extends from 1800m to 2300m in the central High Atlas, dominated by the M'Goun massif culminating at 4068m. The valley is overlooked on all sides by several peaks exceeding 3000 m in altitude.
The valley stretches its greenery over a few thirty kilometers, making it the longest and largest valley in the High Atlas and Morocco. It has 27 villages of ancestral architecture using natural building materials such as beaten earth, stone, wood, plaster… And has a population of around 14,000 inhabitants.
Being still a lake more than a million years ago (Lower Jurassic), the valley of Aït Bouguemez was populated by impressive dinosaurs which left us their huge paw prints up to 60 cm in diameter. These traces can be admired all over the valley on limestone slabs and are generally very easy to access.
