About HELSINKI CITY RUNNING Day

The largest running event in Finland, Helsinki City Running Day, is now scheduled to take place on Saturday the 3rd of October 2020 at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium. Helsinki City Running Day is postponed from May to the beginning of October due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.  

The Helsinki City Running Day is the biggest and most international running event in Finland. The event attracts 15 000 runners from 82 nations and combines six running events into one day (marathon, half marathon, half marathon + marathon, marathon relay, 5 K, children Minimarathon). The event venue and the Finish of all the distances are at the iconic, freshly renewed Helsinki Olympic Stadium. 

The year 2020 will be also special as the legendary Helsinki City Marathon celebrates its' 40th anniversary. (Helsinki City Marathon is the original marathon of Helsinki which date has change from August to under the event combination Helsinki City Running Day.)

On October 3rd, 2020 there is something for everyone; Finland’s largest half marathon Helsinki City Run, the 40th Helsinki City Marathon, half marathon + marathon = Helsinki City Double, Helsinki City Marathon Relay which features a great team spirit, the 5K street run Helsinki City 5 and the adorable Minimarathon. 


Practicalities

Age Limit

There is age limit of 18 years to Helsinki City Marathon and Helsinki City Double competition.

Aid Stations

Toilets and sponging stations at every refreshment station. Marathon and Double runners will get the sponges when picking up their race numbers.

Award Medals

Each runner finishing gets the finisher medal. Best male and female runner will receive special prize and the possession of the trophy.

Equipment Storage

The equipment storage area is located next to Olympic Stadium.

Maximum Time

The race time limit for half marathon is 3 hours, for marathon and relay 6 hours and for 5 Km 1 hour.

Transport

From the city centre you can either walk to the Olympic Stadium or take all the busses from Elielinaukio or the trams 2,4 and 10.

Overview

Helsinki City Marathon is a one-start-event. 42,195 meters long route goes around Helsinki finishing inside the historical Helsinki Olympic Stadium. The course starts near the statue of Paavo Nurmi and finishes at the Olympic Stadium. Various parks, miles of Baltic Sea coastline, and the Helsinki City centre are all located along the route.

The Helsinki City Marathon, is the second most popular marathon in the Nordics, typically attracting runners from over 40 nations.
