About WestField Half Marathon

Hundreds runners cross the finish line each year in both races combined at the annual springtime running of the Westfield Half Marathon. The Westfield Half was started in 1994 when a group of runners from the Empire One Running Club approached the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield with the idea of a half marathon fundraiser. The proposal was to offer area runners a tune up race the Boston Marathon. The spring season race is scheduled 2-3 weeks before The Boston Marathon.

Run to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club organization in this town of about 40,000 residents in the southern central part of the state, the race takes runners on a tour of the rural areas just outside of town, along a course marked by plenty of green, rolling hills, especially in the race’s first few miles.

The Westfield Half is a challenging course for runners of all abilities. Those who really want to push their limits will have a blast on this course. The first 8.5 miles of the course takes you through the southwest part of the city with rural vistas, farm lands and rolling hills. There is enough elevation gain for all.

The best part however, is the race to the finish. During the next 2 miles, you will be running right past some of Westfield’s historic homes, Westfield State University and Stanley Park. The last 5k really takes off down a mostly straight then downhill route, past Noble Hospital (no, you will not need their services) and on to the Boys and Girls Club.
