Ultra Trail do Marão 2025: The Adventure is Back!
The 8th edition of the Ultra Trail do Marão (UTM) returns with a bang, from March 28 to 30, 2025, to challenge trail running lovers in one of the most impressive and stunning mountain ranges in Portugal: the Serra do Marão. This event, which has already established itself as one of the most anticipated in the national calendar, promises a unique experience, full of challenges and breathtaking landscapes.
UTM 2025 stands out for its diversity of distances, allowing the participation of athletes with different levels of preparation. This year, the main event is once again the feared 120K, a competition that tests the endurance of participants to the limit and which, in addition to prestige, offers qualification points for the Western States 100 in 2026. In addition to this, athletes can choose between distances of 60K, 40K, 25K, 15K, or the 6K charity walk.
Course details
UTM Endurance 120K, everything unfolds around the captivating landscape of Marão (the gateway to a Wonderful Kingdom ) and its foothills: Alvão, Aboboreira, Castelo de Matos and Meia Via. These are rugged mountains of singular beauty, where between each section of the route run crystal-clear streams, breathtaking natural landscapes and villages of pure charm. The KM Vertical of Marão and Senhora da Serra await you! An adventure through imposing mountains that challenge your physical strength and where only the most vigorous will achieve victory.
60KM UTM
This race will share the entire route with the UTM Endurance from the start. It will be a very challenging race with two very tough initial climbs: up to Alto das Veias, followed by the KM Vertical do Marão and Sra. da Serra. On the path of more secrets, you will travel through the entire Heart of Marão. Do not doubt the toughness of this challenge, as Marão will mark it as one of the most tiring races you have ever dared to do. Be resilient! Let yourself fall in love with these trails of pure charm!
40KM TM
This race starts in Teixeira, one of the guardian villages of the sumptuous Marão. It continues to the top of Seixinhos and from there to the unique village of Mafómedes, the most isolated village of the wonderful Marão. Do not doubt the toughness of this challenge, as the Marão will mark it as one of the most tiring races you have ever dared to undertake. Be resilient! Let yourself fall in love with these trails of pure charm!
25KM MTM
This race starts right in the centre of the beautiful village of Baião, nestled between the Aboboreira and Castelo de Matos mountain ranges. Two magnificent mountain ranges that together house the largest open-air megalithic museum in Portugal. Baião is a land that amazes those who visit it. A land of mysticism and magic. And a reference destination for sustainable tourism. From here you will ascend to the plateau of the Aboboreira mountain range, following trails with magnificent landscapes, and then descend to Aldeia Velha. You will run along centuries-old trails, through a lush forest and the beautiful Goiva waterfalls. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking for a very short distance, but maintaining the identity of the Marão mountain range. Let yourself be enchanted!
15KM TMC
This race starts in the Aboboreira mountain range, which, thanks to its many granite outcrops, is home to one of the most impressive examples of Portuguese megalithic architecture. Starting from Aldeia Velha, which still retains its rural character today, you will run along centuries-old trails, through a lush forest and past the beautiful Goiva waterfalls. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking for a very short distance, while still maintaining the identity of the Marão mountain range. Let yourself be enchanted!
