THE ROC is redefining endurance triathlon. A unique swim, bike, mountain, bike, run format is inspiring triathletes all over Europe as they ‘Face up to the Mountain’ in England, Scotland and Wales.
Rich in challenges and crammed full of inspiring terrain, ROC athletes take on the country's highest mountains at the heart of each race. Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis form THE ROC Trilogy and the ultimate iconic race series.
Commencing on the golden sands of Abersoch beach THE ROC WALES starts with a 1.5km sea swim in Abersoch’s idyllic bay before heading off on a 50km fast and progressively undulating bike route into the Snowdon Massif. The race then heads on foot via the toughest route up Wales’ highest mountain along The Watkin Path, 6km of 3,330ft formidable ascent to the summit where you can absorb those exceptional panoramic views before heading 6km back down, 50km return cycle, culminating with a 1km glory run along Abersoch beach before crossing the finish line.
Course details
SWIM COURSE (1,500 meters)
Starts on the beach running into the sea for a box course heading to Tudwal’s West Island before rounding a buoy to swim parallel to the beach to SCYC, round 2 more buoys, return parallel to the beach and round the final buoy before heading in to the beach. 50 meters run up the slipramp to transition.
BIKE COURSE (50 KM – Out)
A superb exhilarating course with plenty of long fast sections and some exciting technical sections thrown in too.
SNOWDON RUN (6 Kilometers each way)
Labelled the most stunning route up Snowdon, The Watkin Path is steeped in history and offers the most inspiring trail route up this most famous mountain. It’s progressive in ascent & culminates in a technical steep section near the summit before the fast & furious run back down. N.B. You will need to pass the 4km Check Point up Snowdon before 12 Noon to be able to progress to the summit.
BIKE COURSE (50 KM – Back)
Some great long stretches of open picturesque roads with plenty of technical sections thrown in too. It’s a memorable route back to the finish.
FINAL BEACH RUN (1KM)
The finish straight and really a glory lap on Abersoch beach taking you to the first Groyne and back to see you home in style over the finish line.

Frequently asked questions
When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
You will receive the digital Race Pack 4 weeks in advance of the race. These are only sent out via email containing all the information & instructions you need in preparation for race day. It includes details of where to register and to collect your race bibs, timing tags, transitions etc. Registration is on the evening prior to the race 5pm – 9pm. If for some reason you won’t be able to arrive until race morning then you will need to book in an emergency registration slot.
What is the cancellation/refund policy for this event?
All entry fees are non-refundable, and may not be deferred toward a future event unless requested with and authorised by the Race Director via email. Deferral requests must be made at least 30 days or more before the race and if cleared by the Race Director the following fees apply: Defering to another ROC event in the same year: £15 fee if 90 days or more from the race, or a £30 fee if 30 and 90 days before the race. Defering to the following year: £30 fee if 90 days or more from the race, or a £60 fee if 30 and 90 days before the race.

Wetsuit
Suitable wetsuits for the swim discipline will be mandatory. Neoprene hats and socks are permitted for THE ROC when water temperatures are below 16 degrees.
Drafting
This is a no drafting event. Course officials will be monitoring the cycle route, competitors found breaking this rule will be awarded a time penalty.
Cut-off time
A cut off time will be in force at the Mountain Check Point 4km up Snowdon and 6km up Scafell Pike. Any competitor who does not reach this point by 12 noon will be instructed not to head to the summit but to turn around and complete the course from there. Race officials will be advised and you will receive a different medal when you cross the finish line.
