About Bear 100

The BEAR 100 is a cool, autumn point to point race through the Pines, Golden Aspen and Red Maples of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest of Utah, the Bear River Range of Idaho, finishing at Bear Lake.

Runners are attracted to this race, largely because of its 36-hour time limit and laid-back attitude. The race boldly advertises 36 hours of Indian Summer.

Practicalities

Accommodation

There are dozens of hotels within five minutes of the start. Logan is a medium-sized university city with all the amenities you need, including an outdoor/running shop. It is a two hour drive from the the Salt Lake City International Airport. Accommodations near the finish in Fish Haven, Idaho.

Award Medals

All entrants will receive a beautiful t-shirt with a distinctive design. Finishers receive an engraved plaque indicating the date of the event and their finish time and place. They also receive a belt buckle reflective of their time: a Black Bear buckle for times between 30-36 hours, a Grizzly Bear buckle for times between 24-30 hours, and a Wolverine buckle for times under 24 hours. Winners, in addition to the items above, will receive large custom-engraved pine plaques documenting their accomplishment.

Equipment Storage

Drop bags will be dropped off at the Trout Farm and not the pre-race meeting. Accordingly, you will need to drop off your bags no later than 6:00 on Thursday afternoon. Drop Bags will be transported to each of the major checkpoints in the race. Runners wishing to make use of this service must ensure that their bags are securely tied and clearly marked.

Qualifications

Eight hours of trail work or volunteer work at other ultras is required to participate in this race.

Highlights

Runners will be exposed to the fall colours as they view the brilliant red maples and quaking aspens turning yellow which provides for a stunning contrast among the rocks and cliffs.

Overview

The Bear 100 is a point to point course that starts in Logan, Utah and finishes at Fish Haven, Idaho at Bear Lake. The first climb is the longest, with many more long climbs to follow with varying difficulties of descent. Some descents are smooth downhill while others are rocky. Seventy percent of the course is on trails, 29% is dirt road, and only 1% on pavement.

The Bear 100 is part of the "Rocky Mountain Slam," which a runner completes if s/he finishes the Hardrock 100 plus three of four other races in the Rocky Mountains.
