Tallinn Marathon - the biggest international sport event in Estonia

First Tallinn Marathon took place in 1989 with around 100 participants.

The record-breaking event was in 2018, on the 100th anniversary year of the Republic of Estonia, when in total 23 940 runners from 67 countries participated in different races of Tallinn Marathon. The organisation of the Tallinn Marathon received a high appraisal from the AIMS congress that was held in Tallinn at the same time.

Why come to Tallinn Marathon?

Tallinn is one of the most well-preserved medieval cities in Northern Europe. Tallinn Old Town is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, which deserves to be discovered. Tallinn Marathon course will take you through the beach promenade of Pirita, which offers a classical view on the silhouette of the Tallinn Old Town and several well-known sights.

Tallinn Marathon offers a whole weekend of races with something for everyone: 10K, half marathon and marathon. Choose a distance best for you and your family!

A runner friendly weather with 14-17C in September and our fast-flat track are important aspects why international runners join the Tallinn Marathon. In 2017, the marathon winner's time was a world class time of 2:09.22.

In Tallinn everything is close – the airport is just 4 km and the harbour only 1 km from city centre. Start and finish is within walking distance from the biggest hotels while public transport is free for participants.

Participants of the Tallinn Marathon are traditionally awarded a medal and a T-shirt (for marathon runners) with an Estonian national motif. Every year there are new exciting solutions, which make them unique. Sympathetic T-shirts and wonderful medals have been repeatedly chosen as the most beautiful sports competition award in Estonia.

A Guinness World Record has been set in Tallinn Marathon

Estonian runner Marti Medar set a new Guinness World Record by bouncing two basketballs at a time while running 42,195 km at the Tallinn Marathon in 2021. The record time 3:36:36 is valid until today.

Tallinn Marathon is popular in Estonia and all over the world. Thousands of people come from abroad every year to participate.

Tallinn Marathon – World Athletics Label for 2022

Thanks to the excellent organisation of the past years, Tallinn Marathon is certified with the World Athletics Label for 2022 both in half-marathon event and marathon event. The label mandates the organisers to ensure both professionals and amateurs a racetrack, service quality and security that meet the international requirements.

Tallinn Marathon is also a qualifying race for Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Rankings.

Estonia’s biggest running festival is welcoming you to Tallinn in 2022

In 2022, the Tallinn Marathon races are planned for 10–11 September.

The Virtual Race will take place between 1 and 30 September. The Virtual Race has no borders – you can run your chosen distance all over the world!

The virtual race includes the Marathon Combo, where the full length of the marathon distance must be completed during September either running or walking in smaller parts until reaching the required number of kilometres (42,2 km).

The registration is open. We look forward to meeting you. If the regular event can’t take place, you are more than welcome to participate virtually or you can forward your registration 2023 or ask refund.

NB! Due to the situation in the world, Russian and Belarusian citizens are not allowed to participate in the Tallinn Marathon.
