Join 3 Country Marathon 2025

The Three Country marathon is something unique. Unique because of the route, which passes from Germany, through Austria and Switzerland. Unique with the start on the island, the picture-book impressions along Lake Constance, and the goosebumps feeling at the entrance to the finish in Bregenz. You will run mainly around the lake, and will always be surrounded by beautiful, snow-capped mountains. But no need to worry, it is a very flat course.

Description by organiser keyboard_arrow_down

Once again, the Swiss marathon champions will be determined on the flat and fast track. Many services are included for participants apart from the race!

Crossing national borders is as natural for Central Europeans as the changing seasons. This is not commonplace in a marathon. And if there is an EU external border, it is indeed unique. The three country marathon is something unique with the start on the island, the picture-book impressions along Lake Constance, the passage of the largest open-air stage in the world, crossing the state borders and the goose bumps feeling at the entrance to the finish in Bregenz.

You will run mainly around the lake, and will always be surrounded by beautiful, snow capped mountains. Also, you will pass by the world’s largest open theatre, where the latest James Bond movie was filmed.

Participants, hands and spectators can travel comfortably and with their starting number or the free ticket by bus and train within Vorarlberg and by train from the border stations in Buchs, St. Margrethen (CH), Lindau (D) and St. Anton am Arlberg to the Sparkasse 3-Country Marathon.

Unfortunately, a refund of the participant fee is not possible. If you are unable to start for private or health reasons, we recommend transferring your right to start to another participant free of charge.

Free ship transfer

keyboard_arrow_down

Due to different locations for start and finish, we suggest every runner to arrive in Bregenz on the day of competition. In Bregenz, sufficient parking spots will be available on parking lot P1-P4. From there, follow the signage “Hafen” (“harbour”) which can be reached in a few minutes by foot. You will wait there for the special ship of the “Vorarlberg Lines” which will run continuously starting at 8am and will bring you on to the island of Lindau. The transfer roughly takes 20 minutes.

Baby joggers and Nordic Walking

keyboard_arrow_down

We would love to open up the participation of young mothers and fathers with their children, but due to multiple bottlenecks and small width in some places along the route, especially next to the shore, we decided to not allow participants with baby joggers. We hope you respect our decision, which was certainly not easy, but is necessary for our participants safety.

Journey to the finish in Bregenz by public transport

keyboard_arrow_down

Travelling by train is recommended due to the close proximity of the main train station in Bregenz to the finishing area and the harbour. On Sunday, the usage of train and bus from the Verkehrsverbund Vorarlberg and its adjoining towns in Germany and Switzerland is fee for participants with their starting number and for spectators with a coupon.

Journey to the finish in Bregenz by car

keyboard_arrow_down

Coming from Germany, take the A 96 towards Austria. Drive through the Pfänder tunnel and take exit 9 from the A 14 immediately after towards City tunnel to Bregenz. (Vignette is not required anymore – free until Hohenems) Follow the signage “Festspiele” and “Casinostadion” as well as the parking guidance system for parking lots P1-P4 (Seeparkplätze). From the parking lots it is a ten to fifteen minute walk to the harbour and the finish. The distances are well signposted. Use our route planner: Coming from Switzerland, please keep in mind that the boarder crossing St. Margrethen will be closed from the late morning until early afternoon due to the marathon event. Timely arrival taking the E 60 (Schweizer Rheinstraße), or even better with public transport is highly recommended.
