"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt.

With over 40k feet of gain for the 100 miler (and over 20k feet gain for the 50), this will be one of the most difficult things you ever attempt. Lucky for you, Ouray (dubbed the "Switzerland of America") is also one of the most beautiful places in the world. Situated in the rugged and stunning San Juan Mountain range in southwest Colorado, your senses will be just as overwhelmed with the views as your quads and lungs are with the relentless climbs. When you top out at the Bridge of Heaven after the final 5,000 foot climb, you will know it is all downhill to Fellin Park where your big belt buckle and the Ouray Hot Springs await.

Course highlights

The Ouray 100 starts and finishes at Fellin Park, only yards from the hot springs. With over 40k feet of elevation gain, this is one of the most difficult 100 milers in the world. The route includes: Camp Bird Road, Silver Basin, Imogene Pass Road, Chicago Tunnel, Fort Peabody, Ptarmigan Lake, Richmond Trail, Ironton, Corkscrew Gulch, Gray Copper Trail, Weehawken Trail/Alpine Mine Overlook, Hayden Trail/Crystal Lake, Old Twin Peaks Trail, Silvershield Trail, Perimeter Trail/Lower Cascade Trail, Chief Ouray Mine Trail, and Old Horsethief Trail/Bridge of Heaven.

The Ouray 50 starts at Fellin Park and joins the 100 milers for the last 50 of their race. (See last page of turn-by-turn document below.) With over 20k feet of elevation gain, this is one of the most difficult 50 milers in the world. Single track trails include: Weehawken/Alpine Mine Overlook, Hayden/Crystal Lake, Old Twin Peaks, Silvershield, Perimeter Trail/Lower Cascade, Chief Ouray Mine, and Old Horsethief/Bridge of Heaven.
