The Mauritius Marathon is a fantastic challenge that takes place in one of the most beautiful parts of Mauritius!
The track will go through Le Morne and Bel Ombre coastal roads in the South, along one of the most beautiful lagoons of the Island and across typical coastal villages. The finish line is on the beach of Saint Felix. This marathon combines sport challenge and discovery of Mauritius in a very friendly atmosphere.
Mauritius Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10KM races are all AIMS & IAAF Certified.
The annual Edition of the Mauritius Marathon with a course of 42,195Kms going through wonderful places with spectacular views and the most beautiful coastal road of the island from Saint Felix. An unforgettable view of the vast lagoon is one of the most beautiful on the island.
The Mauritius Marathon combines a sporting challenge with the discovery of the natural and cultural heritage of Mauritius into one big adventure. The course reveals landscapes all along the most beautiful coastal road in Mauritius, combined with a spectacular view over the Baie du Cap lagoon through the UNESCO protected mountain of Le Morne.
The Mauritius Marathon is very much a coastal race, but also includes inland sections that allow runners to appreciate the varied scenery of the island. The race starts and finishes on the beach in Saint-Felix. From there, runners head north along the stunning western coastline to the half marathon start line. There they turn south and then east enjoying some spectacular views including Le Morne Mountain and the many lagoons of the south before returning to Saint Felix public beach.
Course details
In an idyllique and an atmosphere of tranquility on a virgin beach with filaos trees, you will feel the warmth of the first rays of sun shy and the spirit of the fishermen and other water sports enthusiasts. Starting at 6:30 of the public beach in Saint-Félix you will run on the left side towards Riambel (4km) to reach the first turn. Always on the left side, you will spend again the starting line, you will run towards the village of Le Morne (4km), facing the Island Cooking in the lagoon, you will enter into a second U-turn. You go along the Baie du Cap, with its spectacular mountain on one side and white sand beaches on the other.
Joining Maccondé Bay, the road winds through the small bay subdivided between cliff and mountain before reaching the highest rock. And it goes by the Saint Martin de Bel Ombre, a vast sugar plantation established in the 18th century, witness of the Mauritian agricultural development, the opportunity to discover the remains of the local architectural heritage. On the way back, running down the left side of Le Morne Mountain, home of rich history and various legends. After this beautiful area, you begin to experience "The Great Southern Wild" of the island. The coastal road that borders the blue lagoon takes you to the very authentic fishing village of Baie du Cap with landscapes breathtaking. From this last sprint at Saint Felix to finish on the beach and why not also a well deserved swim in the lagoon!
