Join Long Play Trail Run

Withlacoochee State Trail is a 46-mile (74 km) long paved, multi-use, non-motorized rail trail in Florida located in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties. It follows along the Withlacoochee River and passes through the Withlacoochee State Forest. It is the longest paved rail trail in Florida. This is also the venue of the annual Long Play Trail Race.

The course will start and finish on part of the Withlacoochee Trail, at Lake Townsend Regional Park. with the middle of the race taking place on single/double track trails of Withlacoochee State Forest. Lake Townsend has many amenities: running water, bathrooms, pavilions, a hose for rinsing off, electricity, and a lot of shaded parking. The park also has plenty to do for the entire family with basketball courts, baseball fields, volleyball, fishing pier, and playground. Lake Townsend Park has many park amenities and you will find it a great venue for a race.

Course highlights

The race starts and finishes at Lake Townsend Regional Park. This 90 % trail loop is one large loop contained almost entirely in the Croom Tract of Withlacoochie Forest. Starting in Hernando County's Lake Townsend Park it proceeds down the Withlacoochee Rails to Trails bike path for about 1 mile before turning onto Nobelton Road for .3 miles. It then dives into double track trails for the next 1/5 miles before beginning its journey onto Croom's beautiful singletrack trails.

From here you will visit 3 county parks all arrived at via trails. First you will journey to the Tucker Hill trailhead and a manned aid station. Your next check-in point will be at the Silver Lake/Cypress Glenn Campground. You will then be running along the scenic Withlacoochie River for the next 8 miles. You will pass back through Silver Lake/Cypress Glenn before coming out at a manned aid station near the intersection of Croom and Nobleton Roads.
