The race series institutes a "No Mean People" policy, which racers embrace. Hibiscus Half Marathon has been touted as the friendliest half marathon in the state!
The starting line for the race — which features a half marathon, a 15K and a 5 miler — lies at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki Beach, just southeast of downtown Honolulu.
From there, runners make their way around some of this city’s most popular attractions, including Kapiolani Park, Diamond Head Crater Park and the Honolulu Zoo.
After starting out flat for the first mile or so, the half marathon race hits its first significant hills around the mile 2 marker, which runners encounter as they make their way around the end of Diamond Head Crater and Diamond Head Beach.
The race then heads back into city’s urban areas (and back downhill) for the next few miles, until turning back toward Diamond Head for the finish back at Kapiolani Park.
In 2015 and for this year's event, the race serves as the RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) Hawaii State Championship race in the half marathon distance.
Race Weather & ClimateLocated along the southern shoreline of the Hawaiian island of Oahu, Honolulu typically experiences warm weather conditions year-round, and usually sees its driest weather of the year during the month the race is held.
On race day, the average low is 70ºF and the average high is 86ºF.
Course details
