various local charities. The series, called the Tropical Triple Crown, includes the Coconut Chase 8k and the Mango Days 5k. Participants who complete all three races receive a special 4th medal. Set for its 13th annual running through the streets and park areas of Hawaii’s capital city, Honolulu’s Hibiscus Half Marathon one of a series of races run throughout the year as a benefit for

The race series institutes a "No Mean People" policy, which racers embrace. Hibiscus Half Marathon has been touted as the friendliest half marathon in the state!

The starting line for the race — which features a half marathon, a 15K  and a 5 miler — lies at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki Beach, just southeast of downtown Honolulu.

From there, runners make their way around some of this city’s most popular attractions, including Kapiolani Park, Diamond Head Crater Park and the Honolulu Zoo.

After starting out flat for the first mile or so, the half marathon race hits its first significant hills around the mile 2 marker, which runners encounter as they make their way around the end of Diamond Head Crater and Diamond Head Beach.

The race then heads back into city’s urban areas (and back downhill) for the next few miles, until turning back toward Diamond Head for the finish back at Kapiolani Park.

In 2015 and for this year's event, the race serves as the RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) Hawaii State Championship race in the half marathon distance.
