Inspired by the 1974 Commonwealth Games marathon, the Christchurch Marathon event is renowned as one of the fastest courses in the world.

But it is also one of the most scenic and supportive, welcoming all age & ability for a flat, fast and scenic tour around iconic Christchurch landmarks such as Cathedral Square, Hagley Pk, the Avon River & the Red Zone.

With a Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k & Kids’ Mara’Fun, there is something for everyone. But don’t take our word for it…

Course Highlights

The 10k, Half Marathon & Marathon have three parts as following:

Loop A – 10k: The 10k, Half Marathon & Marathon all do Loop A (red line on map), anti-clockwise from Cathedral Square, around Hagley Park north, & back to Cathedral Square. The 10k then finishes.

Loop B – 11.1k: This section (black line) heads east, out & back on both sides of Avon River, then back to Cathedral Square. Half Marathon do Loop A & Loop B & then finish. Full Marathon does Loop
B twice.

Loop C – 10k: This section (purple line) is in Full Marathon only & continues further east. Full Marathon does Loop A once & Loop B twice, but midway through the first time around Loop B they do Loop C
