Open to both runners and walkers, this year’s Bellingham Bay Marathon, Half-Marathon & 5K promises to be a beautifully scenic race along the city’s waterfront, as the event takes participants on an out-and-back loop course southward from the Hotel Bellwether along the shores of the Bay, and back again to the hotel for the finish.

The Bellingham Bay Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K is a group of races designed by runners for runners and walkers. Founded in 2003 by the Bellingham Bay Swim Team, BBM delivers a fun, highly personal, authentic race experience. 100% of net proceeds benefit Whatcom County youth non-profit organizations

Course Highlights

Beautiful point-to-point course starting on Lummi Nation and finishing in downtown Bellingham. Starting around sea level and flat for the first three miles, the race becomes hilly around miles 4 and 5, after which the course reaches its lowest point — near sea level — around miles 8 and 9, and then again as runners near the mile 11 marker. Run mostly along paved surfaces, the race also takes runners along city running and walking trails and features views of the nearby San Juan Islands and Mount Baker. Outdoor activity is a favorite pastime for residents across the city, whose natural beauty and topography accommodates running, hiking, paddling, canoeing, and cycling in all seasons.
