THERE ARE MANY MARATHONS, SAN SEBASTIÁN JUST ONE
The Zurich Maratón San Sebastián is far more than a race—it is a complete sporting and cultural experience. Held in San Sebastián, home to one of Spain’s oldest marathons, the event offers everything you would expect from an unforgettable weekend of sports tourism. Thousands of runners gather each year in search of a meaningful personal achievement in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
With a population of around 180,000, San Sebastián combines the charm of a small city with a global reputation for its exceptional gastronomy and stunning scenery. Located in northern Spain’s Basque Country, along the Cantabrian Sea and close to the French border, the city provides a spectacular setting for one of Europe’s most historic marathon events, welcoming approximately 7,000 runners annually.
San Sebastián is open, inclusive, and cosmopolitan, with a rich heritage shaped by its elegant Belle Époque past. Its architecture, vibrant culture, and world-famous cuisine create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.
This remarkable journey begins the moment you register and culminates as you cross the finish line. Participants from the local Gipuzkoa region and runners from across the globe come together, supported by dedicated volunteers, medical teams, physiotherapists, performers, and enthusiastic spectators. Together, they create an extraordinary and unforgettable marathon experience.
Set at sea level in a clean, coastal environment, the race offers runners the chance to enjoy a perfect weekend in a world-class destination. The course passes alongside the iconic La Concha Beach, widely considered one of Europe’s most beautiful beaches, providing breathtaking views and an inspiring backdrop throughout the run.
Multiple race distances, including 10K and the full marathon, are offered on the same day. The flat and fast course makes it ideal both for first-time marathoners and experienced runners aiming for strong performances.
Beyond the race, San Sebastián captivates visitors with its walkable size, picturesque streets, and renowned culinary traditions. The Old Town is filled with lively bars serving traditional pintxos and tapas, offering the perfect way to celebrate your achievement.
The city also boasts a proud athletic heritage, having hosted major international competitions and produced remarkable marathon performances. This long-standing tradition, combined with the city’s natural beauty and passionate community, makes the event truly special.
The Zurich Maratón San Sebastián is more than a marathon—it is a destination, an experience, and a dream waiting to be achieved.
