About Ultra Trail Chaouen - Marocco

First and largest outdoor event in northern Morocco, the Ultra Trail Chaouen aims to develop a sporting course combining the virtues of the getaway in nature and the values of solidarity and sharing that we firmly believe!

The event aims to highlight the incredible potential of the city of Chaouen - registered by UNESCO intangible heritage of humanity - and to discover its region of remarkable biodiversity without forgetting the spectacular natural park of Talassemtane.

Beyond the sporting aspect, we insist on the solidarity aspect of the event: an alternative "discovery" course open to all, entitled "Mountain for All", will be set up, as well as the installation of an ephemeral village where products from the region will be displayed.

We also make it a point of honour to limit any ecological impact during this event and to make participants aware of the respect for the environment. To this end, we will actively collaborate with the management of the Talassemtane National Park, the National Office of Water and Forests and with many activists concerned with the preservation of the environment to make the Ultra Trail Chaouen an exemplary event!

Highlights

UTC is an original event in the heart of this wilderness, crossing the Talassemtane reserve, and allowing participants to evolve in exceptional landscapes. At the turn of this park, runners will also enjoy the charm, the authenticity of the villages of the region and taste their legendary hospitality.

Overview

85KM

Starting from the mythical blue pearl, the runners will pass by the entrance to Talassemntane National Park and the Ecomuseum, the Botanical Garden.

After crossing a dense reforestation of pine trees, you will have to turn right at the first junction to start climbing. The climb offers at first striking views of the city and the surrounding landscape; the big mirador which was arranged, practically suspended on Chefchaouen, consitute a stop forced just a few minutes after the beginning of the course.

From this belvedere, the panorama is most charming. In a single glance you can get all the city, its majestic Kasbah and its inner garden, and its medina that seems to curl up in front of the urban exhibition of the last ones. Today we can hardly distinguish the famous form of guitar from the "blue city", but if we look at the perimeter of the ramparts, perfectly defined, it is still possible to imagine, but also to understand how Chefchaouen has always been linked to water.

The climb is followed, and step by step we arrive at Oued Tisemlal where some pumping has been alleviated to bring the water to Chefchaouen.

The trail is now moving away from the valley, and an abandoned kiln testifies to the centuries-old valorization of limestone rocks to whiten the walls of houses.
