About Seychelles Eco Friendly Marathon

The Seychelles Islands... the land of perpetual summer where a friendly, people and a vibrant, authentic culture conspire with legendary natural beauty and uncanny tranquillity to offer the vacation of a lifetime.

Every year, against this backdrop of almost surreal splendour and surprising levels of diversity that include both towering, granitic islands and low-lying coral atolls, species of flora & fauna that are amongst the rarest on the planet and the multi-ethnic roots of the welcoming population, Seychelles plays host to the Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon.

The inaugural race, which was held in 2008, was the brainchild of Mr. Dong Chang Jeong, Seychelles' Honorary Consul General for South Korea with the aims of enhancing Seychellois health, providing for interaction between Seychellois and foreign participants, attracting overseas runners and leisure travellers and strengthening Seychelles' brand image worlwide.

In late February, runners of the Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon will set off from Beau Vallon at 7am, covering Northern and North Eastern areas of the main island of Mahe, as well as its capital, Victoria.As for the structure of the marathon, there is something for a wide range of fitness levels – from 5km course to marathon which covers 42.195km this follows the philosophy of the Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon that is to spread the focus beyond mere competition, putting equal emphasis on appreciating exercise and being surrounded by the natural beauty of Seychelles.The event was conceived to contribute to Seychellois’ health and to unify Seychellois and visitors. 

The marathon indeed helps to bring Seychelles to the attention of more travelers and contributes to lifting the Seychelles brand around the world. For this edition in Feb, the islands can expect to receive some 500 overseas participants, on top of several hundred local participants.The Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon is recognized internationally through the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) label. It is organized jointly by the National Sports Council, Seychelles Tourism Board and  INOCEAN M&C (South Korean company headed by Mr. Dong Chang Jeong) which is also the main sponsor for the event.


Award Medals

Medals and prizes of a range of values are to be awarded to the top five category winners, and all participants who complete the race shall be awarded a t-shirt in addition to their Official Time Certificate.

Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon provides a unique opportunity for marathon runners across the globe not only to savour the experience of running through some of the most amazing countryside on earth, but enjoy a unique opportunity for healthy living and for the recalibration of mind, body & soul in harmony with the rhytms of nature.

The event is wonderfully complemented by a special Korean Gala Dinner, due to be held in February. It is a unique chance to experience the wonders of Korean culture and cuisine and will also be the occasion for the prize giving ceremony for Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon winners.

The breathtakingly-beautiful course of the marathon meanders down the East coast of Mahe, Seychelles' principal island, between virgin, forest-covered hillsides and the dappled waters of a limpid, sapphire ocean.

If it is true that inspiration is drawn from one's environment, then there can be few purer forms of motivation than that supplied by Seychelles' Eco-Friendly Marathon. To participate in this event is to obey Nature's call to convene at place we have all long dreamed exists: a mythical place of ultimate harmony where tired spirits can be refreshed and worries washed away. Somewhere with the space to breathe the purest air and ample room to stroll trackless, powder-soft sands of breathtaking beaches. A place for the senses to feast on the endless delight of fresh experiences. A place where Man's timeless yearning for harmony folds seamlessly into reality.


The marathon starts and concludes at Beau Vallon Beach. The course leads the runners through Bel, Ombre, Beau Vallon, Glacis, Macha Bee, North East Point, Anse Etoile, La Bastille, English River, 5th June Avenue, Bois De Rose, Geant Casino, Francis Rachel, Clock Tower, Independence Avenue, 5th June and back to Beau Vallon .

  • The Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon took place for the first time in 2008, with a modest count of 330 participants.
