Join reyrun 2026
Reyrun is a marathon event in the Maldives, created as a tribute to Mohamed Thakurufaanu Al-Auzam, one of the country’s most revered national heroes. Thakurufaanu was a fisherman, warrior, and leader known for his eight-year resistance against foreign occupation in the 16th century. Alongside his companions, he sailed the seas aboard the legendary ship Kalhuohfummi, carrying out daring nighttime raids and enduring great hardships during the day. His relentless efforts eventually led to the liberation of the Maldives. Reyrun draws inspiration from this remarkable journey, aiming to embody his resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit. Participants in the race face challenging conditions such as intense heat and long distances, echoing the enduring struggle of Thakurufaanu and his crew. The event emphasizes not only athletic performance, but also discipline, heart, and perseverance. Reyrun stands as a living reminder of the national spirit, encouraging every Maldivian to push forward in the face of adversity, just as their heroic ancestor once did.
