About New River Marathon

The serene, peaceful beauty of the western North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains, the home of wintertime ski destinations like Sugar and Beech Mountains as well as year-round camping and hiking destinations like the nearby Pisgah and Cherokee National Forests will be on display at the New River Marathon running this year along the banks of the river of the same name.

Runners taking part in the race will follow a course that for the 26.2-mile full marathon is roughly a double-loop route between the communities of Todd and nearby Fleetwood here in North Carolina’s Ashe County, passing small farms, country churches and Christmas tree farms along the way; those running in the 13.1-mile half marathon will finish their race when they reach the end of the first of those two loops.
