Join Maratona della Battaglia - Curtatone
A flat and very fast marathon among the exclusive landscapes of the great battle of Curtatone and Montanara, a
dive into history with a view of the future of the fabulous Mantuan territory.
A dream came true for Marco Simonazzi, the board member who for years has been planning a Marathon in Curtatone, the historic town on the outskirts of Mantua, scene of the famous battle. The battle of Curtatone and Montanara is an episode of the first Italian war of independence. It took place on May 29, 1848, when the Austrian forces of Josef Radetzky, leaving Mantua, attempted to outflank the Piedmontese army. The Austrians attacked the weak point of Carlo Alberto di Savoia's advanced deployment, made up of the positions of the Tuscan and Neapolitan contingents between the two towns of Curtatone and Montanara.
