Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon
Join Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon
The Lake Wobegon Trails are two paved recreational rail trails in central Minnesota, named after the fictional Lake Wobegon in Garrison Keillor’s “Prairie Home Companion”. Each trail is marked with mileposts every 0.5 miles (0.80 km), corresponding with the mile markers of the former railroad lines. Snowmobile use is allowed on the trail in winter, conditions permitting.
This picturesque course is a certified (USATF #MN-08042-RR) and is a Boston Qualifier. Many people feel that the trail from Holdingford to St. Joseph is the prettiest portion of the Lake Wobegon Trail. The trail is primarily rural except as it passes through the four small towns along the route. In a post on the “A Prairie Home Companion” website, Garrison Keillor said this about the Lake Wobegon Trail: "I‘ve biked the bike trail … and love the ordinary beauty of farmland and meadow and the towns along it.
