Join Lake Macquarie Running Festival
What an awesome day at the annual Lake Macquarie Running Festival, with 1500 runners hitting the road from Warners Bay to Speers Point in the Pure Performance 21.1km Half Marathon, Newcastle Permanent 10.5km Fun Run and the Billy’s Lookout 4km Kids Scamper.
The Lake Macquarie Half Marathon commenced in 1984. This year will see the 32nd consecutive running of the event. The event peaked with over 2800 competitors.
In 2010 the event was renamed the ‘Lake Macquarie Running Festival’ to embrace to growing nature of the event which was expanded to include a 10.5km Fun Run and 4km Kids Scamper.
The festival is positioned within the running calendar to take advantage of the Sydney Marathon that will be held a few weeks later and Sydney’s City To Surf held a few weeks prior.
The event is designed to enable the broader community and families to compete and also attract athletes of an international standard. Previous competitors have included Steve Moneghetti, triathlete Kristin Molloy, as well as local international stair runner Angela Leadbeatter.
