About Lake Macquarie Running Festival

What an awesome day at the annual Lake Macquarie Running Festival, with 1500 runners hitting the road from Warners Bay to Speers Point in the Pure Performance 21.1km Half Marathon, Newcastle Permanent 10.5km Fun Run and the Billy’s Lookout 4km Kids Scamper.

The Lake Macquarie Half Marathon commenced in 1984. This year will see the 32nd consecutive running of the event. The event peaked with over 2800 competitors.

In 2010 the event was renamed the ‘Lake Macquarie Running Festival’ to embrace to growing nature of the event which was expanded to include a 10.5km Fun Run and 4km Kids Scamper.

The festival is positioned within the running calendar to take advantage of the Sydney Marathon that will be held a few weeks later and Sydney’s City To Surf held a few weeks prior.

The event is designed to enable the broader community and families to compete and also attract athletes of an international standard. Previous competitors have included Steve Moneghetti, triathlete Kristin Molloy, as well as local international stair runner Angela Leadbeatter.

After Race Services

Water Stations and fruit available for finishers.

Aid Stations

Will be every 2km. They will serve water and isotonic drinks.

Equipment Storage

Baggage Claim Area is provided and supervised during the race. Possessions will be bagged and require your race number and verification of your race bib for collection.


New Multisport Australia timing chips will be utilised for all events and are INSIDE THE RACE BIBS supplied within your Race Pack, the bibs should be attached to your shirt. As timing chips are contained within the race bibs this year and do not need to be returned.

Warners Bay



The fantastic course location follows The Esplanade at Warners Bay and is adjacent to the beautiful scenic foreshore of Lake Macquarie. It is a multi loop course that is completely free of traffic.

Surrounded by beautiful beaches, mountains, and the ocean, the city of Lake Macquarie is located 90 minutes north of Sydney, 10 minutes from Newcastle, and 40 minutes from Hunter Wine Country and the NSW Central Coast.

Lake Macquarie is one of the largest coastal saltwater lakes in Australia, about twice the area and volume of Sydney Harbour.

Warners Bay is at the northern tip of the lake and the course follows some of the best water views possible, making it one of the most scenic runs to enjoy in Australia.
