About Laguna Phuket International Marathon

2016 marks the 11th edition of Laguna Phuket International Marathon organized by Go Adventure Asia. In response to the anticipated big increase in participation, the event will be held over two days, the 4th and 5th of June 2016. The 2 Km, 5 Km and 10.5 Km races will take place on Saturday afternoon, 4th of June, whereas the half marathon and marathon will be on Sunday morning, 5th of June. All distances sold out in 2015 and 2016 is expected to be another sell out.

The Laguna Phuket International Marathon attracts participants from all across the globe. In 2015 there were almost 6,000 runners from close to 60 nationalities represented. Just like in previous years, the race starts and finishes at beautiful Laguna Phuket. Runners follow the course out of Laguna and then head north through local villages, pineapple and rubber plantations. It is a fun and family oriented affair in conjunction with the Laguna Phuket Foundation, which supports educational and social development of local communities, marine and natural environmental conservation.

From its humble beginnings with less than 2,000 participants the event has grown to a size of more than 5,000 participants representing Thailand and more than 50 countries around the world.The event is a fun and family oriented affair with various races for all levels.

Practicalities

Aid Stations

There will be a water station every 1.5 – 2 km along the course with each of them providing fruits, water in cups and bottled water. From km 12.5 onwards, isonotic drinks will be provided to all runners.

Friendly, fun in the sun! The marathon course is postcard coastal Thailand, and takes in a typical Thai village market, a rubber plantation, beach and sea views as well as stretches along buffalo plowed rice fields before finishing in the resort of Laguna Phuket in the North West of the tropical island paradise.

Overview

The course is basically an out and back course with a loop for the last 10 km. Marathon and Half Marathon runners follow the course out of Laguna and then head north through local villages and rubber plantations. The course is very scenic and runners can appreciate the lush vegetation Phuket has to offer.
