Join Kathmandu Urban Marathon
Nepal is the land of Mount Everest. Stunning nature and of course very friendly people. But also the land of the earthquake on April 25th in 2015. The Nepali people are still working hard to recover from that disaster.
The Kathmandu Urban Marathon is held every 2 years on April 25th starting in 2018 to commemorate the devastating earthquake of 2015. Participants of this marathon will contribute towards rebuilding and educational projects for the adults of the future!
The marathon and half marathon routes takes you to most spectacular sights of Kathmandu, some are still damaged as result of the earthquake but still worth seeing. On the marathon route you will pass Durbar Square in Patan, the center of Kathmandu and Swayambhunath also known as the Monkey temple because of all the monkeys that live there. You will cross Boudhanath and see Pashupatinath where the Nepali people hold cremations in the open air. The ashes are spread in the holy Bagmati river which you will also cross. We expect all participants to respect the Nepali people and their rituals along the course. Anyone not following these rules will be removed from the marathon.
Participants must follow orders from volunteers, police and other members of the marathon organization. The route will be marked but is only very partially traffic free, so it’s not going to be a race to improve your personal best. You are however contributing to the rebuilding of Nepal. The Kathmandu Urban Marathon is a charrity event and there is NO PRIZE MONEY!
The Kathmandu Urban Marathon is organized to support the local economy. Any profit of the marathon will be used to support projects from the ColdFeet Foundation (www.coldfeetfoundation.com) and 112Nepal Foundation (www.112nepal.nl Dutch website) together with PA Nepal and Educational Capacity Building in Rural Nepal.
After registration it is not possible to get a refund when a runner decides not to take part in the event. When the event is canceled or rescheduled there also will be no refunding of the registration fee. This will be used for our local projects in Nepal.
Total number of participants of full and half marathon, international and Nepali participants combined, is 200! When that number is reached the registration will be closed!
