Join Iznik Ultra Marathon
The İznik Ultra Marathon stands as Turkey's premier trail running festival, expertly organized by Macera Akademisi - MCR Racesetter since 2011, with the exception of 2020, bolstered by support from local institutions and structures. Rooted in a straightforward concept — circumnavigate İznik Lake using the sheer force of muscular determination — the event summons 1,200 athletes from 26 countries to engage in its races.
This three-day extravaganza encompasses a captivating array of trail routes spanning 160 km, 47 km, and 25 km, alongside the spirited 14 km Çamdibi trail, a 5 km UNESCO Historical City Run, and a spirited Children's Run. The festival transforms Bursa and İznik into an energetic hub, drawing 2,500 sports enthusiasts and spectators alike. İznik, a town enriched by a 2,500-year legacy, enjoys a UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List status, lending an air of historical significance to the proceedings.
With the resonating cheers echoing through the air, runners are buoyed by the ardent support of the 21 villages and neighborhoods encircling the lake. The festival is a platform for novices to test their mettle on the 14 km and 25 km trails, while seasoned athletes, displaying remarkable strength and expertise, seize the challenges presented by the 47 km and 160 km ultra-marathon courses.
Each year, participants aim higher, setting new goals and embarking on a journey of preparation as soon as they depart İznik. The year 2019 marked an especially formidable race day, set against Turkey's most exacting terrain. A mere quarter of the participants managed to conquer the 160 km distance, a testament to its uncompromising nature. Over the span of 30 hours during İznik Ultra 2019, racers were greeted by the capriciousness of four seasons, amplifying the already demanding trail into a memory etched indelibly into their minds.
Amidst the gentle sway of olive trees and a symphony of verdant greens and serene blues, some runners triumphantly crossed the finish line, emboldened by the sweet taste of accomplishment. Yet, for others, it became a moment to tuck away the aspiration of conquering the course for another year. The İznik Ultra Marathon remains an event where resilience and the pursuit of personal excellence meld into an experience that lingers in the hearts of all who take part.
