This exciting event is a 13.1 mile road race through the beautiful countryside of Ilkley, West Yorkshire. The course takes runners through scenic views of the Yorkshire Dales, challenging hills and breathtaking valleys. The Ilkley Half Marathon is a perfect challenge for runners of all abilities, whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the sport.
Course details
The route is a single half marathon clockwise loop on tarmac road through the incredibly scenic Wharfdale valley.
The course mildly undulating apart from a short, steep hill at around two miles and another one at about 11 miles. Total ascent and descent along the route is 221 metres.
The 2026 race will continue the improvements made in 2024 to relating to the start line and Ilkley Town Center loop.
5k:
The route is a single 5k clockwise loop on a tarmac road through the streets of Ilkley.
The course is mildly undulating. The total ascent and descent along the route is 48 metres.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get to the race location?
We encourage runners to arrive by public transport, on foot or bike but appreciate this may not be possible for everyone. If you're coming by car we have plenty of parking opposite the event on East Holmes Filed, which will be well-signed on the day. Please follow car parking sings to avoid delays.
Can I change the distance after I purchase a ticket?
Swapping your Half Marathon entry for a 5k entry: This is possible up until Friday 19th June 2026. Please drop us an email and we will let you know how to do this. We will issue you with a unique 100% discount code for 5k and ask you to complete a new sign-up form for the 5k event. We aren’t able to refund any difference in price between the two events. Runners aren’t able to swap a 5k entry for a Half Marathon entry.
CAN I WEAR HEADPHONES?
Yes, you can wear headphones for almost all of the race, but there are two sections where they are not allowed. Anyone seen wearing earphones in these sections may be disqualified from the race. The map below shows you where headphones are not allowed. One exception to this rule allowed by UK Athletics is that runner are permitted to run with SHOKZ OpenRun Wireless Bone Conduction Headphones.
ARE THERE ANY INDIVIDUAL PRIZES?
Yes! There are trophies and prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female finishers. There are also prizes for all age group winners. Prize fund will be confirmed in due course. In 2024 1st prize was £200 cash. Age group winners received Yorkshire Runner vouchers.
