About Grand Canyon Ultras

This race is run in the Kaibab National Forest near the entrance to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is staged near the Kaibab Lodge the weekend after Hwy 67 opens up for the season to allow visitors access to the North Rim. Each route runs along the rim of the Grand Canyon (on forest service trails), offering spectacular overlooks into the canyon.

The race will be staged at a designated open use area approximately 4 miles from the Kaibab Lodge, About a mile south of the lodge, turn right onto Hwy 22 and drive about 2 miles to the junction at the top of the hill. Turn south (left) on the 270 and head south for about a mile to the sign that says "Snowmobile Play Area". This is the staging area.

Practicalities

Accommodation

The Kaibab Lodge is the nearest hotel to the starting line. The historic Jacob Lake Inn is also nearby. Once these fill up, the nearest accommodations are in Fredonia, AZ and Kanab, UT. Camping is allowed at the start/finish line area or on surrounding forest service land. Kaibab Camper Village (which has coin showers and laundry is near Jacob Lake Campground . The Demotte Campground is located next to the Kaibab Lodge.

After Race Services

We hope that you will join us at the finish line for as long as you’d like to welcome home the other finishers. One of our goals this year is to create a welcoming environment for you to hang out with old and new friends. To make this possible, we will have the following amenities present at the finish line to keep you comfortable- shade, seating, pizza, heated tents, drinks, hot showers, a wood-fired cedar hot tub, and recovery area.

Award Medals

The finishers’ award for the 50 mile distance hand crafted medallion using organic materials gathered on the course and preserved in resin.. The 50K finishers' award is a hand made mug with the race logo and distance.

Highlights

This race is run in the Kaibab National Forest near the entrance to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.The route traverses the famous Kaibab Plateau and skirts the rim of the canyon, taking you to 8 breathtaking overlook points.

Overview

The 50 mile route is a point-to-point race starting at the height of the Kaibab Plateau (9000ft) at 6am on Saturday. Runners will descend 2,000ft down to the rim of the canyon, where they will run the Rainbow Rim trail singletrack to 5 overlook points before a rugged traverse on old logging roads over to the spectacular Crazy Jug and Monument Point overlooks into the Grand Canyon. The route then finishes at a historic corral (Big Saddle Tank) once used by ranchers on the plateau. 

The 50K runners will be shuttled to their starting line at Timp Point to begin their race at 7am on Saturday. This course is the same as the latter 32 miles of the 50 mile course, with all of the amazing rim views. Shuttle leaves at 6am sharp and race begins at 7am.
