About Famous Idaho Potato Marathon PResented by Idaho Potato Commission

The YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon, presented by the Idaho Potato Commission, is a fun full marathon, half marathon, 10K or 5K course along the Boise, Idaho greenbelt. All courses are flat and fast! The marathon and half marathon is one of Idaho’s signature marathon and half marathon event The half and full marathon course begin at Lucky Peak and run into town along the Boise River just north of town, crossing over bridges and featuring beautifully scenic views of the tree-lined trails along the water.



Stay at our host hotel, The Riverside Hotel. Mention you are participating in the Famous Idaho Potato to a discount rate.

Age Limit

14 and older 

Aid Stations

These will be located along the full marathon course approximately every two miles through mile 20 and approximately every mile thereafter.  

Award Medals

Medals are given to all Marathon and half marathon finishers. Overall top 3 male and female finishers receive plaques and a bag of Idaho Potatoes. 

Equipment Storage

We offer athlete bag check at the start of the marathon and half marathon. All items are brought to the finish line and organized by bib number.

Maximum Time

We close the course after 8 hours from the start. 


Buses will pick-up at the Finish line, Albertsons HQ on Parkcenter Blvd. Parking is limited at the starting lines. Parking is limited at the start.

 Enjoy a Famous Idaho Potato Bar with all the fix’ns after the race prepared by Life’s Kitchen for all race participants. 


We use a disposable bib chip that is located on the back of your race number  Your number must be pinned on the front of your body.


Buses will pick-up at the Finish line, Albertsons HQ on Parkcenter Blvd.Marathon and Half Marathon Busses:5:00-6:30am

The course is very scenic.


The race starts at Lucky Peak State Park. From there, runners follow a mostly winding course along the river, heading northwest through southeast Boise as they pass through a number of smaller parks and green space areas. Runners pass through Barber Park, Baggley Park and the Warm Springs Golf Course along the mostly flat terrain along the riverside, making their way up through Boise’s Julia Davis Park and into Ann Morrison Park for the finish,
