About Bilbao Night Marathon

In October, Bilbao Night Marathon will celebrate its annual event after the huge success in the past editions. This is the only popular night-time marathon in Europe and is included in the official calendar of Spain's athletics federation. The race is part of the City’s efforts to make Bilbao a benchmark for sporting events that generate economic activity and energize the city.The night-time marathon is a combination of sport and fun, offering everybody the possibility to participate and experience the city in a different way. The event consists of three different races: a 42 km marathon for professional athletes and amateur marathon runners; two 21 km races (half marathon); and a 10km.

Bilbao Night Marathon Trivia

  • This is the only popular night-time marathon in Europe and is included in the official calendar of Spain's athletics federation. The race is part of the City’s efforts to make Bilbao a benchmark for sporting events that generate economic activity and energize the city.
  • The ability to run in addition to the 42 km race, a half marathon and a 7.5-kilometer race (this year called pirate) it opens the possibility to the participation of a greater number of runners. Last years experience has been enhanced this year with the increase of the number of runners, especially females, multiplying by 6 the athletes taking part from the first edition. There are 3503 registered athletes, 1097 for the marathon, 1783, in the half marathon and 623 in the pirate race
