About Beast of Burden 50 Miles (Winter)

So you think you can run 50 miles in sub-zero temperatures? If yes, the Winter Beast of Burden is for you!

Run a flat course with a few feet of snow under your feet in this race. Enjoy the chill in the air and the challenge of running through snow - enough to make you want to run this spectacular race over and over again. The white fluffy stuff makes for a scenic race that will thrill you from start to finish!

This Ultra is not for the faint of heart and is sure to be a test of one's abilities. Get ready for an epic run on the frigid historic Erie Canal and be prepared to unleash the beast inside of you!



Practicalities

Aid Stations

Aid stations have volunteers and the ultra food you will need to fuel your run, including Heed, Water, Coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, fresh pizza, pancakes, and donuts. There are three aid stations along the course.

Award Medals

Finishers will receive a Beast of Burden 100 Mile Finisher's Buckle.

Equipment Storage

Drop bags will be brought to the turn-around only.

Maximum Time

24 hours

Qualifications

All racers must be willing to submit to a drug urine test before, during, or after the race. If any USOC banned substances are detected, the racer will be disqualified from competition and listed as DISQUALIFIED in the final standings of the race.

Timing

Racers must make their presence known at all Time Stations located in fixed locations along the route. Runner times into the time station will be recorded. The clock does not stop for any reason until the race course officially closes 30 hours after the designated official start time.

Highlights

The historic Erie Canal offers scenic views with white fluffy snow along the course.

Overview

Runners will start at Wide Water’s Marina and run along a paved trail for approximately 1 mile before crossing the canal on one of Lockport's historic draw bridges and then run along the historic Erie Canal Towpath.

Athletes will run approximately 11.5 miles to the Village of Middleport before returning to the start area. This out and back course will be run twice to complete the 50 miles.
