Alpinum - The Cerdanya Cycling Tour: A Scenic Adventure Through Catalonia and France.
This captivating route offers one of the most breathtaking cycling experiences in the Pyrenees, showcasing stunning panoramic views over the Cerdanya Valley. The tour begins and ends in the picturesque municipality of Alp, a key destination in Cerdanya known for its remarkable geography and home to two of Europe’s premier ski resorts: La Molina and Masella.
The journey starts on Spanish roads before crossing into France via the challenging Col de la Llose and Col de la Creu, leading riders through the wild yet spectacular landscapes of the Aude Valley.
Now rebranded as Alpinum, the event is organized by the founders of Gran Fondo La Mussara, who aim to establish it as a must-do ride in the cyclotouring world. With three route options available, cyclists of all levels can find their perfect challenge, conquering legendary climbs like the Col du Calvaire, Col de la Llose, Col de la Creu, and Collada de Tosses.
Whether you seek epic ascents or unforgettable vistas, the Cerdanya Cycling Tour promises an extraordinary adventure on two wheels.
Course details
The route crosses four mythical passes in one of the most evocative sceneries of the Pyrenees: the Col du Calvaire, the Col de la Llose, the Col de la Creu and the Collada de Toses. The route joins the Catalan and French Cerdanya, and also enters the territory of Capcir. Along the route, the panoramic views are not only a complement: they dominate each segment of the route. From open valleys and high altitude forests to secondary mountain roads with little traffic, each section offers a new perspective of the Pyrenean landscape. In its final part, just at the beginning of the ascent of the Collada de Toses, participants pass just a few meters from the finish line. That moment - so close to the goal and yet still immersed in effort - represents a tough mental test.
Medial 145km
The Medial route culminates in three emblematic Pyrenean passes: the Col du Calvaire, the Col de la Llose and the Col de la Creu, crossing the Catalan and French Cerdanya, and even entering the quiet and wild territory of Capcir. At the Col de la Creu, the road opens up between gorges and forests, with good asphalt and exceptional views of the Aude valley. All along the panoramic route, the views unfold into endless open valleys, mountain formations, high-altitude forests and barely-traveled secondary roads. Every turn reveals a new perspective of the Mediterranean Pyrenees.
Sport 89km
The route crosses one of the most emblematic mountain passes of the Cerdanya: the Col du Calvaire, in Font-Romeu, which rises to 1,836 meters. Along its final 10 kilometers, with an average gradient of 5.4%, the landscape opens up in a succession of wide valleys and Pyrenean peaks. The Col du Calvaire is a "regular" pass every 3-4 years in the Tour de France, and precisely in the next edition of the Tour de France in 2026, its third stage returning from Granollers (Barcelona) will pass through the Collada de Toses and our Col du Calvaire.
