Sofi Malt Great Ethiopian Run International 10KM

This unique race, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is celebrated as one of the most vibrant and colorful events in the world. Often described as Ethiopia’s biggest street party, it brings together over 50,000 Ethiopians running, walking, and dancing along the route, led by the country’s celebrated international runners.

The event welcomes participants of all abilities, making it perfect for those new to running. Many participants walk or dance through the course, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.

International visitors often join the race as part of a broader trip to Ethiopia, exploring historical sites and national parks. Others participate through school and charity groups, building connections with local projects. Some come for a long weekend to experience the running culture, vibrant markets, traditional restaurants, and music venues of Addis Ababa, one of Africa’s fastest-growing capitals.

Founded by Ethiopia’s legendary long-distance runner Haile Gebrselassie, who won the inaugural race, the event has grown into a platform for promoting important social messages. Haile remains at the heart of the race, engaging with international participants, hosting world-class athletes, and awarding prizes.

The entry fee, which includes access to the pre-race pasta party at the Hyatt Regency, is £70. The pasta party is a highlight, featuring traditional Ethiopian music and dance, a coffee ceremony, and an opportunity to meet the iconic Haile Gebrselassie.
