It once began as a challenge with a friend, but it ended up as a true lifestyle. About 1.5 years ago I signed up for my first race. Together with my roommate we accepted a challenge to run 10km without any break. So exciting! I never ever ran for more than 5km until that time.
The moment I came across the finish line has changed my life. The feeling of joy. The pride. The happiness of all the finishers around me. I was immediately addicted. That same evening, I signed up for my next race. The Dam to Dam run in Amsterdam. This time I wanted to run 16.100km. And I experienced the same magical feeling as I did in my first race.
I have finished a lot of races now. Running has become more than a sport, more than a passion, it is a lifestyle. Not a day passed by without thinking about running and I was never happier and I never felt better than I do right now.
But on January 1, 2017, I decided to sign up for the whole marathon. 42,195km, the Amsterdam marathon. I think it's so exciting! It will be the biggest challenge I ever faced in my life. A challenge with my body and a challenge with my mind.
Every day, the tension builds up a little bit more. But I still enjoy every training. Each training gives me the chance to clear my head and each training takes me a step closer to October 15th. The day I will (hopefully) complete my 1st marathon. I hope to see you there!
