The Monterosa Est Himalayan Trail offers a thrilling challenge through steep and technical terrain, with race distances of 103km, 60km, 38km, 22km, and 14km. Set at the foot of Monte Rosa, the 4,634-meter-high peak marking the border between Italy and Switzerland, this trail is more than just a race—it’s a journey through the rich history of the Alps.
The event takes place in Macugnaga, a picturesque alpine village at 1,327 meters above sea level, nestled at the base of Monte Rosa’s eastern wall. Known as the “Pearl of Monte Rosa,” Macugnaga boasts a deep history that began in the 12th century when the Walser people, of Valais origin, settled in the Valle Anzasca. Their unique traditions remain alive today, reflected in the village’s architecture, traditional costumes worn during special occasions, and the Titsch language still spoken by some elders.
Participants will not only tackle challenging trails but also immerse themselves in Alpine culture and history. From the ancient Walser settlement of Dorf, with its 13th-century church, historic cemetery, and the iconic secular “Tiglio” tree, to the stunning natural landscapes, this race is a true celebration of the Alps.
