Informazioni Salomon Cappadocia Ultra Trail®

Cappadocia is a region of unique natural wonders, especially with fairy chimneys and unique historical and cultural heritage.

Cappadocia, which was first spread to Nevşehir, Kırşehir, Niğde, Aksaray and Kayseri, emerged with rain and wind for millions of years, soft layers formed by Erciyes, Hasandağı and Göllüdağ, erupted by lac and ashes 60 million years ago. The region is an integrated place of nature and history. While the geographical events formed the fairy chimneys, in the historical process, people became houses and churches inside these fairy chimneys and adorned them with frescoes, making the traces of civilizations thousands of years old. Cappadocia is one of the important junctions of the Silk Road, which houses trade colonies throughout history and establishes a commercial and social bridge between countries.

The written history of Cappadocia, where human settlements stretch as far as the Paleolithic turn, begins with the Hittites. After the collapse of the Hittite Empire, the late Hittite Kingdoms bearing Assyrian and Phrygian influences dominate the region. These kingdoms last until the Persian occupation of the 6th century BC. The name of Cappadocia used today means "Land of Beautiful Horses" in the Persian language. In 332 BC, the Greater Alexandrian Persians defeated, but with great resistance in Cappadocia. In this period, the Kingdom of Cappadocia is established. When the last king of Cappadocia dies in 17 AD, the region becomes a province of Rome. The region later became one of the most important centers of Christianity. The rock-cut houses, churches, and underground cities have made the region a huge haven for Christians who escaped the pressure of the Roman Empire. In the 11th and 12th centuries, Cappadocia passes through the Seljuks. In the following period, the region became Ottoman dominated.

Today, the region has a great prospect in terms of tourism. Urgup, Avanos, Goreme, Akvadi, Uçhisar and Ortahisar, El Nazar Church, Karanlık Church, Güvercinlik Valley, Derinkuyu, Kaymaklı, Özkonak Underground Cities, Ihlara Valley, Selime Village, Çavuşin, Güllüdere Valley, Pasabag-Zelve are the main places to be seen.
