Join Dugi Otok Trail 2026
Join us on Dugi Otok (Long Island), an island of remarkable contrasts and natural beauty in the northern Dalmatian archipelago, for a unique Long Island Trail running event. The island’s rugged landscape features dramatic cliffs in Telašćica Nature Park, tranquil coves, and pristine beaches, all contributing to its status as a significant Croatian natural landscape. Rich in history, Dugi Otok is dotted with archaeological sites dating from prehistoric times, including ancient forts, villas, and medieval churches.
This event offers four distinct trail categories, showcasing the island's untouched scenery and cultural heritage. The toughest, Island Red, is designed for experienced runners and covers steep cliffs, technical rocky trails, and unique lake landscapes. Cliff Blue and Forest Yellow offer a mix of challenging and scenic routes along the cliffs, saltwater and freshwater lakes, olive groves, and through dense Mediterranean vegetation. Bay Green is ideal for beginners, taking runners along stunning coastal paths with panoramic views.
At the finish line, participants are welcomed with a local products fair and a lively island celebration, highlighted by the famous Tovareća mužika and traditional cuisine. This race is truly perfect for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a memorable island adventure.
Course details
The longest route requires good fitness and experience in trail racing. The start and finish are in Sali. It passes through the Telaščica bay, next to Lake Mir, winds along cliffs that rise over 140 meters above the sea, passes by Lake Žmansko, through numerous olive groves and reaches the finish line along the northern coast of Dugi Otok. The route is challenging, but offers a lot of beauty and unforgettable views of one of the most beautiful Adriatic islands.
CLIFF BLUE 25 km
The trail requires a slightly higher level of fitness and experience and has parts with quite demanding terrain. Although most of the trail is in the Nature Park, we can say that it is not as easy as a ''walk in the park''. The start is located next to Lake Mir, where an organized transport will take you from Sali (included in the entry fee). After passing along the cliffs (in some parts the terrain is quite ''craggy'' so caution is required!), you pass by another phenomenon that is less well-known - Lake Žmansko. The finish is in Sali. The trail is very diverse, from open parts and rocky terrain to trails in dense Mediterranean vegetation and paths covered in moss.
FOREST YELLOW 19 km
The course is suitable for advanced beginners who want to try a more challenging course. The start is together with the CLIFF Blue category near Lake Mir, to which you will be brought from Sali by organized transport (included in the entry fee). Right from the start, you run along Lake Mir, from where you exit to the famous Dugi Otok cliffs (or Stene, as the locals call them) where you will surely have some of your most beautiful running photos. There are parts on the cliffs with demanding terrain where increased caution is required. From the cliffs, you descend again to Telaščica, from where you go to the most beautiful viewpoint - Grpašćak. From Grpašćak, you continue west, all the way to the Žmanske jezera, freshwater lakes in the heart of the island. From there, you return to Telaščica and through the olive groves to Sali, where the finish line is. It can be said that this course summarizes almost all the best of this part of the island and Telaščica, without too much demanding and rough terrain.
BAY GREEN 11 km
The course is suitable for beginners, but can also be a challenge for competitors eager to race. The start is on the waterfront in Sali, and the course offers beautiful views of the indented Telaščica bay and its islands, and we believe that no one can remain indifferent to the view from the most beautiful viewpoint, Grpašćak, from which you can see the famous cliffs of Dugi Otok, Telaščica bay and the Kornati in the distance. The finish line is next to Lake Mir. The organizer will transport the competitors' belongings to the finish line, and in Sali you will be returned by organized transport - this transport is included in the entry fee.
