Ride Across Portugal - date 1

Join Ride Across Portugal - date 1 2026
Join the Ride Across Portugal and embark on an adventure alongside participants from around the globe, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Starting from the rugged northern border and concluding at the sun-drenched southern coast, the route spans Portugal in six stages. This challenge not only tests participants' fitness but also delights their senses with daily discoveries of the nation's diverse landscapes and rich heritage.
Throughout the six stages, cyclists will traverse some of Portugal's most tranquil and picturesque roads. A highlight of the journey is reaching Alto da Torre, the highest point on mainland Portugal at 1,993 metres. Situated in the Serra da Estrela mountain range, this peak is renowned as the most iconic cycling location in the country, often serving as the dramatic finale for stages of the Tour of Portugal.
Participants will also ride alongside several major Portuguese rivers, offering breathtaking views that will be etched in their memories.
For the more competitive riders, each stage features timed segments, providing an opportunity to challenge oneself and the peloton daily. With 4 to 6 timed sections per day, cyclists can vie for stage rankings and overall victory in both men's and women's classifications. This inclusive format ensures that participants can compete while still enjoying ample time to socialise, regroup, refuel at feed stations, ride with friends, pause, and take photos.
The official Ride Across Portugal hotels play a crucial role in enhancing the experience. Selected for their quality and strategic locations, these accommodations ensure comfort and ease, minimising the need for transfers by being close to stage start and finish points.

Is Ride Across Portugal a competition?
No, Ride Across Portugal® is a cycling stage event, where each athlete rides at his (her) own pace, scrupulously complying with traffic rules and always safeguarding their safety and the safety of the other public road users. However, participants can choose to participate in the competitive version of the event. For this, in each stage there are segments of the course, duly identified and communicated by the organization to the athletes, where their times will be timed. Classifications (general and per stage) will be established based on the sum of these timed segments.
Can I go with companions (non riders)?
Yes, but the organisation guarantees only a limited number of places in the accommodation units to companions. The companions must to guarantee their own transport during the stages, always complying with the rules regarding the dynamic support. However, the companions can follow the stages, having access to the departure and the arrival points, as well to the pit stops. The organisation will provide some tourist information to help the companions to plan their daily programs, especially with the identification of tourist points along the course. To subscribe supported transport services and tourist guides and programs for companions, the Official Tour Operators must be contacted.
How does the Organisation handle my luggage?
The bicycle and travel bags participants bring from their places of origin will be transported by the organisation directly from the beginning (Douro-Armamar) to the end of the last stage (Porches). During the stages, participants won’t have access to these packages.

Do I need a medical certificate to participate?
Yes, participants need to present a document signed by a doctor, attesting their physical fitness to participate in an endurance event like Ride Across Portugal®. The draft of this document is sent to the participants, after the validation of their registrations. All athletes who hold a UCI license valid for the year of the event, don’t need to present this document since that license already includes medical validation for cycling, including participation in these types of events.
