Join Morcote Scal 2026
The fourth edition of Morcote Scal, promoted and organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Morcote and the Carnevale association , will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 1:30 PM to approximately 6:00 PM.
Registration will be limited to just 100 adult participants .
New this year will be KidScal', also open to children between 9 and 12 years old.
A spectacular race through the narrow streets of Morcote and up the magnificent monumental steps that lead from Piazza Granda to the Church of Santa Maria del Sasso. This non-timed, knockout race will test even the strongest runners. 420 steps of history and breathtaking views!
Heats will be drawn from among the 100 registered runners. 20 heats will consist of 5 runners. The top 2 in each heat will qualify for the next heat. The bottom 3 will be grouped into play-off heats. Everyone will thus be able to run and compete with the others at least twice on the steps.
The race was conceived by Pierre Derrien, a Morcote resident for over 10 years. Pierre uses this route several times a week for training, and taking inspiration from the disciplines featured in the Olympics, he decided to create a competition with the same energy. Thus was born the Morcote Scal, an uphill race where you challenge your opponent directly from the starting line in the extraordinary setting of Morcote's "Monumental Climb."
