Lugano Scal

The Scalinata degli Angioli, like the nearby funicular now in disuse, have a glorious past.

The adjacent Church of Santa Maria degli Angioli is one of the most important Renaissance historical monuments, not only in the Canton of Ticino but in all of Switzerland and the setting is among the most enchanting that the city of Lugano has to offer.

Today the entire area is the subject of studies aimed at restoring the right value to this connection between the lake and the upper part of the city, towards the Tassino Park.

It is about 135 meters, a sequence of just under 300 steps that are already part of running itineraries for many enthusiasts, but today we propose you to test yourself, with yourself and with others.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday afternoon, November 16, 2025, to participate in this third edition of the Lugano Scal, which, like the Morcote Scal, aims to enhance the monumental stairways of the area.

The name Scal, as well as the logo, are inspired by and refer to the race that was held for the first time in Morcote on 1 April 2023 on the initiative of Pierre Derrien.

Running the stairway:
Each registered participant will be able to run up the stairway at least twice. The two times of climbing will be timed and the sum of the two times will determine whether or not they will participate in the final round, which will see the participation of the top 10 women and the top 10 men.
The top three in each category will be awarded.
Places are limited to the first 100 registered participants in the order of registration.
Registration includes a personalized bib with chip, Arcobaleno ticket from your home in Ticino and return, evening pasta party, wooden finisher medal.

At the end of the event there will be the opportunity to spend a convivial moment together with a pasta party at the nearby Ristorante-bar Luini 6 at the LAC, in the square that bears the same name.
