Autumn 100

Goring-on-Thames (or Goring) is a relatively large village and civil parish on the Thames in South Oxfordshire, about 5.5 miles (8.9 km) south of Wallingford and 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Reading. It has a railway station, which is on the main line between Oxford and London in the nucleus of the village. As a civil parish, most of the land is farmed and woodland on the Goring Gap outcrop of the Chiltern Hills. Its riverside plain is made up of the residential area of the village including its high street, which has a few shops, public houses and restaurants. Neighbouring this street are the village’s churches, one of which, to Saint Thomas Becket, has a nave that was built in the 50 years after his death in the early 13th century, and a later bell tower. The village faces Streatley and is connected to that village, which has a lower population and a large riverside hotel, by Goring and Streatley Bridge. This is also the host of the annual Ultra The Autumn 100.
The Autumn 100 (previously the Winter 100) is a 100 mile continuous Trail Race based in the twinned villages of Goring and Streatley on the River Thames. The course reflects the shape of a cross and takes runners on a series of four different 2 mile out and back spurs, using sections of both the Ridgeway and Thames National Trails.
