About Run for the Whales

The Run For The Whales Half Marathon is open to both runners and walkers.

The half marathon and 5K are run as a benefit for marine and ocean education programs for Maui’s schools, and the event also includes a Keiki FunRun race for both runners and walkers.

The race is a fundraiser for the Pacific Whale Foundation, which supports research on humpback whales in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific, as well as education for school chidren on marine life and conservation programs for whales around the world, including efforts to prevent whale collisions with ships.

Pacific Whale Foundation’s annual Run & Walk for the Whales is one of Maui’s largest run and walking events. Participants can choose to do a half marathon, 10K run, 5K run, 4K walk, or a 1K run for keiki only (ages 12 and under).

Highlights

Along with the amazing scenery, participants can often see whales breaching in the distance.

Overview

The Run and Walk for the Whales course begins and ends alongside Ma’alaea Harbor at the Ma’alaea Harbor Shops. Runners will pass through Haycraft Park, along the Honoaplilani Highway then along N. Kihei Road and through Kenolio Park. Thereafter runners will approach the turnaround point at Kalepolepo Beach Park before returning to the start point.
