This is not just another race, it is the famous Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon, the largest half marathon in the world!
With more than 62,000 participants, over 200,000 friendly spectators lining the course to cheer you by your name (it is printed on your bib), multiple music bands located at strategic points to lift your moods the Göteborgs varvet is a must for your bucket list.
Göteborgsvarvet is a running competition organised annually in May since 1980 in Göteborg, Sweden. It may be better known to English speaking runners as Gothenburg Half Marathon.
It starts outside of, and finishes in, the old Slottsskogsvallen arena in the Slottsskogen park. It then continues over the large suspension bridge Älvsborg Bridge, follows the north bank of the Göta älv river. Then the course of Göteborgsvarvet crosses over the Göta Älv Bridge, goes through the inner city to reach the finish.
For those who want to experience the excitement of the largest half marathon in the world but are not ready to run the distance, the organisers of Göteborgs varvet prepared a shorter Yoga Run. It is a 4.3 km run with a bonus. Included in price is a pass for a yoga or meditation class at Slottsskogen park!
If you are already planning a trip to Göteborgsvarvet don’t forget that this is not the only attraction of the region. Add a few more days to your schedule before or after the race to explore the city.
