This is not just another race, it is the famous Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon, the largest half marathon in the world!
With more than 62,000 participants, over 200,000 friendly spectators lining the course to cheer you by your name (it is printed on your bib), multiple music bands located at strategic points to lift your moods, the Göteborgsvarvet is a must for your bucket list.
Göteborgsvarvet is a running competition organised annually in May since 1980 in Göteborg, Sweden. It may be better known to English speaking runners as Gothenburg Half Marathon.
For those who want to experience the excitement of the largest half marathon in the world but are not ready to run the distance, the organisers prepared a shorter 4.3 km run - Cityvartet.
If you are already planning a trip to Göteborgsvarvet don’t forget that this is not the only attraction of the region. Add a few more days to your schedule before or after the race to explore the city.

When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
Pick up your bib at Göteborgsvarvet Expo in Friidrottens Hus 15 - 17 May. We recommend everyone who can to pick up the race bib during Thursday or Friday. Opening hours: Thursday: 11am - 9pm Friday: 10am - 9pm Saturday: 8am - 3pm
How do I get to the race location?
We recommend to take public transport to the start at Margretebergsgatan. The nearest stops are Botaniska Trädgården, Marklandsgatan or Linnéplatsen.
Maximum time
The finish close at 7.00 pm. It is a cut off on Hisingen, Frihamnen at 5.40 pm after 13,5 km. On the other side of Hisingsbron at Postgatan, it is a cut off at 6.05 pm (15 km). Runners who does not reach these places in time will be transported back to the finish area. The start is going on between 1 pm and 4 pm, the maximum time to finish the race depend on which start group you belong.
Start with a friend
If you want to run with a friend, it is always allowed to move to a start group further back. You can do this without contacting us and it will not affect your result. Observe that this only applies when moving to a start group further back, moving to an earlier start group will lead to disqualification.
How to get to Gothenburg?
There are plenty of trains between Stockholm and Gothenburg as it is the most traveled route in Sweden. We offer our registered athletes an option to ride with our "Runners Train" for an additional fee. If you want more information regarding this you can contact us further.
