Join Estonian Wilderness Marathon 2025

This trail marathon takes you through the breathtaking native forests and bogs of Estonia, combining the excitement of a running race with the adventure of a point-to-point expedition through the country’s uninhabited wilderness. The course begins in the Albu municipality, famously featured in Estonian national writer Tammsaare’s classic novel, “Truth and Justice,” and concludes in the heart of the Kõrvemaa Landscape Conservation Area in Aegviidu. This marathon is not for the faint-hearted—participants must rely on their own strength to reach the finish line, but the reward is an unforgettable experience and a deep connection with Estonia's natural beauty.

Runners will navigate narrow forest trails and dirt roads, along with challenging sections without defined paths, designed to test endurance and spirit. The easier—and often most scenic—parts of the trail are the boardwalks winding through the Kodru and Kakerdaja bogs. While Estonia’s terrain has gentle elevation, the course crosses hills formed during the Ice Age. The route is clearly marked with ribbons, arrows, and hiking trail signs, and GPS data is available for download. With a 7.5-hour time limit, the course is also suitable for fast hikers.

For those not ready for the full 42+ km marathon, there are shorter options: a 27.5 km trail from Mõnuvere through Kakerdaja bog and forests to Aegviidu, and a 15 km route starting from Valgehobusemäe, also finishing in Aegviidu. These shorter routes offer a chance to experience the trail’s beauty without committing to the full marathon distance.
