The Empire State Marathon is an annual marathon (42.195 km/26.219 mi) held each October in Syracuse, New York. The first running of the race was on October 16, 2011. The marathon course has been certified by the USATF. Race organizers are looking to capitalize on the growing popularity of distance running in upstate New York, particularly with the success of other local marathons in Rochester, Buffalo, Albany and the Boilermaker Road Race in Utica.

The Empire State Marathon is returning for its annual event this Fall, providing yet another amazing competition in an un-rivaled atmosphere. With marathon and half marathon distances, this popular upstate race has been a favorite for destination athletes. Based in Syracuse, NY the course features an Onondaga Lake setting with more welcoming views than you might expect when running miles on end.

Designed to take advantage of this part of central New York state’s fall season — when the leaves turn brilliant shades of red, gold, brown and orange — the half marathon race follows an out-and-back course.

The start and finish will take place at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. Adequate parking will allow runners easy access to the venue and entertainment adjacent to the start and finish. Additionally offering  an easy exit after the race is over.

Course Highlights

The start and finish will take place at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse. The Half Marathon Course Is a flat, fast, out and back course running North from NBT Bank Stadium to Liverpool along Lakeshore Parkway all the way to the most Northern end of Onondaga Lake Park and then back again to Finish at NBT Bank Stadium. The Marathon Course Follows the same flat course as the Half Marathon to the end of Onondaga Lake Park, but then continues Northwest along the Seneca River with a modest climb back to Route 370 , proceeding North to Baldwinsville (the half way point for the Marathon course). The course continues East on Route 31 , turns onto River Road for a nice descent back to Onondaga Lake Park and then back along Onondaga Lake Parkway to the finish line waiting at NBT Bank Stadium.
