Aderire Santa Barbara Wine Country
Santa Barbara and the adjoining Santa Ynez Valley offer the ideal destination running experience. Held in early May on Mother’s Day weekend, it’s the perfect time to visit this haven for outdoor recreation. The area has plenty to offer including beach and ocean activities, hiking, biking and running trails, historic towns and missions, plenty of shopping and restaurant options, and an abundance of wineries and tasting rooms. And you’ll LOVE this scenic course that runs from downtown Santa Ynez through Los Olivos into the Danish-settled town of Solvang.
Bring your family and friends to enjoy a weekend full of activities in this bucolic setting and celebrate in style at the expanded post-race Wine & Music Festival in Solvang Park. Run the half marathon or the two-person relay. Form a team of six or more. Run with, or for, your mother. But be warned…this race is habit forming and sells out early!
Punti salienti del corso
Mile 0 – 1: Start on Sagunto St.
Gather in downtown Santa Ynez for the start on Sagunto St. Enjoy great views of the meadows with the Sierra Madre Mountains as your backdrop for the first mile.
Mile 1 – 2: Edison to Baseline
You’ll pass through Arabian horse ranches and fruit orchards on this stretch of the course. Aid station #1 is at the bend next to Summerset Farms at the 2-mile mark.
Mile 2 – 4: Refugio to Roblar
Heading north on Refugio is a straightaway until you turn left onto Roblar. The course starts to bend and roll in this section. For every slight uphill there is equivalent downhill to help keep your pace. You’ll pass Aid Station #2 just after reaching Roblar.
Mile 4 – 6: Grand to Los Olivos
Our favorite part of the first leg of the course, this section begins with a sweet smelling pass by the lavender fields at Clairmont Farms. Then it’s a downhill twist onto Grand Ave., which takes runners right through downtown Los Olivos. Runners will then take a left at the flagpole to Aid Station #3 and the 2-person relay transition. Los Olivos is a great spot to enjoy breakfast and watch the race!
Mile 6 – 7: Alamo Pintado To Corkscrew Hill
After a short pass through town and the transition area, runners will head West on Alamo Pintado Ave. Make sure you hydrate for Corkscrew Hill, a .6-mile stretch that will test your hill climbing skills. You will gradually wind around as you climb and as you reach the crest of Corkscrew Hill you’ll be rewarded with Aid Station #4, a great view, and 4 miles of mostly downhill ahead!
Mile 7 – 9: Ballard Canyon
Runners will love this part of the course. Check out the incredible views down valley as you race through Ballard Canyon on the fastest section of the course. You’ll pass by vineyards, ranches, horses, cows, sheep, bison and an occasional volunteer. Stay to the right of the road to avoid any law enforcement, staff or media vehicles that may be on course. Aid Station #5 will be located at mile 8.3.
Mile 9 – 12: Rusack Vineyards to Chalk Hill
Aid Station #6 is located at mile 9.9, near the entrance to Rusack Vineyards. Be sure to check out their award-winning wines during your stay. You will be cruising downhill for a mile or so but eventually you’ll encounter a short set of rolling hills prior to entering the Chalk Hill residential section of Solvang. Aid station #7 will appear at mile 11.7, just before you reach the crest of Chalk Hill at Mesa Vista Lane.
Mile 12 – 13.1: Copenhagen Finish
It’s a fast final mile and a half as you approach downtown Solvang on Atterdag Rd. After crossing Mission Drive (Hwy 246) take a left turn onto Copenhagen for the final stretch in front of the spectator lined streets of this Danish-style town. Now it’s time to rehydrate, enjoy the award ceremony and celebrate in style at the Wine & Music Festival located adjacent to the finish area in Solvang Park.
Postazioni di Pronto Soccorso
Seven aid stations will be placed on-course between the start and finish areas. Various non-profits, school teams and other groups host these stations. They are placed on-course at key locations and intervals approximately 1.5 miles apart.
Servizio di deposito
A gear check area is provided at the start and relay transition areas for runners to place their warm-ups and other items in the bag provided by race staff. Write your bib number and name on the bags and they will be transported to the finish area for pickup. Any items left at the event will be donated to charity after 14 days.
To enter the half marathon you must be able to finish the course in 3 hours and 30 minutes and keep a 16:00/mile pace or better. Casual walkers are not permitted in the half marathon due to this time limit. If you cannot keep the required pace on course, you will not be guaranteed course supervision by law enforcement and volunteers.
Cosa offre il kit da gara
Water will be offered at each aid station and GU Hydration Drink (Lemon lime flavor) will be provided at every other aid station. GU Energy Gels (Chocolate, Vanilla Bean, and Salted Watermelon flavors) will be distributed at Aid Station #4. Please discard wrappers in trash receptacles at aid stations, or put them in your pocket, not alongside the road.
The race is chip timed to provide accurate and fair results for runners. Runners will receive a chip embedded in their race bib. Top 3 overall finisher results are based on gun time, all other finisher results use chip time results. The timing chips with bibs are disposable and do not need to be returned. However, our bibs are a keepsake and make nice wall art!
