Join Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon 2024
The Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon is a unique race which offers you a rare experience of running in the middle of the night but with the sun still over the horizon. The Tromsø marathon is the northernmost AIMS certified marathon in the world. The Arctic midnight sun attracts runners from all around the world. The Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon is known for great its organization and fantastic atmosphere.
There are more than 6000 participants from all over the world gathering in the streets of Tromsø to join the celebration that is Midnight Sun Marathon.
Midnight Sun Marathon has been held every year since 1990 in Tromsø, the Arctic capital of Norway located at 69 degrees north. About 350 km north of the arctic circle, most of the city is situated on a small island surrounded by the sea and beautiful mountains. Northern Norway and the nature here is full of strong contrasts that provide intense running experiences for its visitors. During the summer the sun never sets below the horizon and running under the Midnight Sun is a true bucket list oppertunity.
There is five different distances to choose from: Marathon (42,2km), Mizuno Half Marathon (21,1km), Coop Mila (10km), iTromsø Mini-marathon (5km) and SNN Kids Race (500m). The races are open for all and day becomes a festival in town. Many locals gather along the streets of the course to cheer the runners on through the streets of Tromsø.

When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
During race weekend the race secretariat will be located at City Hall in Tromsø city center. Here you will pick up your bib (start number), receive info about the race, and you can visit our official MSM shop. Approximately two weeks before the race you will receive a receipt for your bib by email. NB! Please note that you will have to present ID and your confirmed bib receipt. Opening hours at City Hall: Friday 14:00-20:00 Saturday 10:00-02:00 Sunday 10:00-13:00
What is the cancelation/refund policy for this event?
Your registration is personal and binding. By registering for the race you accept our terms & conditions, and we do not refund nor change names on fulfilled registrations. Runners who participate with someone else’s start number will be disqualified.
Medals & prize money
Everyone who finishes the race (all the distances) will receive a medal. Prizes will be awarded to the 3 best participants in each class of the Marathon, Mizuno Halfmarathon and Coop Mila (10km) race. Price money will be awarded to the top 3 male and female Marathon runners whose finishing times are under 2.55.00 (women) and 2.30.00 (men). No. 1 NOK 30 000 No. 2 NOK 15 000 No. 3 NOK 10 000 A bonus of NOK 5 000 will be given for new marathon course record.
Where should I stay?
The hotels in the city centre are all within walking distance from the start- and finish-area of Midnight Sun Marathon, Polar Night Halfmarathon and the reindeer racing and lassothrowing during Samí Week.
How can I travel to Tromsø?
If you are travelling from outside Norway to Tromsø, you have to fly to Oslo and take a connecting flight to Tromsø. The flight time from Tromsø to Oslo is approximately 2 hours and there are several daily flights. To travel by sea, the Coastal steamer Hurtigruten arrives in Tromsø daily, and travelling within the region you can board the express boats from Harstad and Finnsnes. There are also bus Connections from the surrounding cities, such as Narvik, Bardufoss and Alta.
