The Malta Marathon is a truly unique race since it is organized on a tiny Mediterranean island that is only 27 kilometres (17 miles) long and 14 kilometres (9 miles) wide. The Malta Half Marathon and the full distance have a predominantly downhill courses with a drop of 200 meters from start to finish. A great choice for your first race or an attempt at a new personal best. What is even more exciting the routes of both distances are packed with great views of this famous tourist destination. The home of Malta Marathon is steeped in culture and heritage due to its 7000 years of history.
The Malta Marathon is one of Europe’s oldest marathons.
It is by far Malta’s fastest, largest, best organised and most popular marathon, it incorporates a half marathon as well as a 5K.
The Malta Marathon saw an all-time record number of participants in 2025 with participants from over 80 countries.
Both races are held in accordance to the World Athletic Technical & Competition regulations.
Both the Full and Half Marathons are predominantly downhill, starting at 195m and ending up at sea level making both races relatively fast. On a good day, records are bound to be broken.
The Men's and Women's Malta Marathon records stand at 2:13 and 2:35 respectively whilst the Men's and Women's Malta Half Marathon records stand at 1:02 and 1:13. These are Malta's unparalleled records.
All times are recognised and accepted by prestigious marathons, such as Boston, Berlin, Comrades, etc,.
The Malta Marathon & Half Marathon routes have changed many times over the years since the inaugural Malta Marathon. Faster and less traffic congested roads have always been sought, hence the changes. This is by no mean task due to Malta’s geographical layout and size.
Both routes start from outside the ancient fortified walls of Mdina, Malta's medieval capital. Along the routes participants will be accompanied by live bands whilst they pass through countryside and urban areas with the last 5Km passing along the yacht studded creeks of Malta's world-renowned natural harbour before finishing in the popular resort of Sliema.
Transport to the start is conveniently organised from Sliema, so that finishers can find their way to their accommodation on foot at their own leisure.
Race registration is held in Sliema from where race bibs, commemorative T-Shirts, official race magazines and clothes bags are given out to all partiiciapnts.
Clothes bags will be transported from the start to the finish from were they can be collected in an effiecient and orderly manner after crossing the finish line after being given San Michel water, Powerade and a banana.

When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
Overseas participants: Barceló Fortina Hotel, Sliema. 100m beyond the finish line. Thursday 25th February 2027, 17:30 to 21:30 Friday 26th February 2027, 17:30 to 21:30 Saturday 27th February 2027, 13:30 to 22:00 Resident in Malta will be held at Eurosport, Birkirkara. Sunday 21st February 2027, 11:00 to 18:00 Tuesday 23rd February 2027, 17:30 to 21:30
Can someone collect my race pack for me?
Yes, as long as the ID Number or Passport Number used to apply is given when collecting the number. If, a valid Covid vaccination certificate or a valid PCR test or a valid Rapid test is required, this is also presented.
How do I get to the race location?
Transport from Sliema to the start can be booked online, either whilst applying for the event or at a later stage.
Can I change the distance after I purchase a ticket?
Usually yes, if race number hasn't yet been collected, depends on availability.
What is the cancellation/refund policy for this event?
Application and Transport fees are non refundable and cannot be transferred to another event, even if in the unlikely event that the event is not held for whatever reason or if the applicant cannot participate for whatever reason.
