🏃‍♂️ Colombo Marathon Course Highlights Flag-off near BMICH (Colombo 07) Starting at the heart of Colombo, runners set off near the iconic Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), a landmark of modern Sri Lankan architecture and political history. Borella & Dematagoda Urban Stretch A lively section through the busy neighborhoods of Borella and Dematagoda, offering a glimpse of everyday city life, bustling markets, and local communities cheering runners on. Peliyagoda & Wattala – Gateway to the Coast As the route heads north, runners transition from the dense cityscape into more open suburban areas, with fresh sea breezes starting to roll in. Scenic Hamilton Canal A tranquil stretch running alongside the historic Hamilton Canal, originally built by the Dutch in the 1800s. This shaded and scenic part offers calm waters, coconut palms, and glimpses of local fishing life. Pamunugama & Thalahena Coastal Villages Authentic Sri Lankan coastal living unfolds here: narrow village roads, small temples, lagoon views, and smiling locals offering encouragement. Pitipana & Duwa – Fishing Heritage The route passes fishing hamlets where nets, boats, and daily livelihoods paint a colorful backdrop. Duwa is especially known for its Catholic heritage and Easter Passion Play traditions. Finale at Negombo Beach Park The marathon culminates on the golden sands of Negombo Beach Park, framed by swaying palms and the Indian Ocean. A celebratory finish awaits in one of Sri Lanka’s most vibrant seaside towns, often called “Little Rome” for its churches and colonial charm. ✨ Together, the course offers a journey from Colombo’s urban energy to Negombo’s coastal beauty, blending cityscapes, canals, villages, and beaches into one memorable run.
